hahah the best day ever

Today has been... holy cow.. !
literally lol. but i'm getting ahead of myself.
This morning nick took us to his favorite running spot, which is pretty much awsome. but very hilly... which was not a particularly smart choice for the first long-ish run of the season, but it's okay. It was absolutely beautiful.. there were streams and rivers and tons of hills and even horses! Beth had a speed workout this afternoon, so she went 45 minutes or so, but I headed back out and tackled two very fierce hills to round it out to an hour.
After we got back to nick's, we went shooting, which beth has been wanting to do for years now. haha it was quite teh experience. i'd shot a gun before, so i just sat off to the side and watched beth try it out with nick's help. We were shooting clay pigeons (which don't actually look like pigeons, but that's another story), which one person had to fling out to the field for the other to shoot. Anyway, nick went first to show beth how it's done, and she was supposed to throw the target a couple hundred feet out into the field. if only i could have known that it would be more dangerous than giving her the actual gun... instead of throwing it out, she accidentally flung it sideways, mere inches from my head, smack into the back of nick's truck where it promptly shattered into a million pieces. It was absolutely halarious. after i realized i was still alive.
After shooting, i fell asleep, and when i wake up i find out we're going to a dairy farm. i thought they were kidding, but no... we actually went to hang out with the cows, and farmer joe made us milk them! it was gross! but they were kinda cute cows :)
We tried to go for another run this afternoon, and beth attempted some speed to get ready for her race in a few weeks, but both of us were quite unsuccessful after this morning's grand adventure. So instead we came home, ate lots of food, and made smores on the fire. much better option.

:)

Wow, tomorrow is June! Months go by wayy too fast these days, am I right?
Well I've been training again for about a week now, after taking a little time off after track...and I'm trying to ease into the running slowly. No more of this funny business with my quads! We had a little chat-I promised to be nice to them, if they'll be nice to me...forever and ever :) So, needless to say, the mileage in the training log is a little more than I anticipated for my quads so soon! Everything feels good though, and it's nice to be running again...a little break always makes me appreciate it sooo much more :)
We've got an awesome team in the making ladies, can't wait!

Yay virginia

Yay! beth and I made it to virginia alive! it took 11 hours but we made it! we went running in a random neighborhood in north carolina and tomorrow nick is taking us to his favorite running spot! yay!

excitement!

thanks for making me feel like the slacker everyone...i haven't even opened the email yet.

i've concluded that my first week at home should be solely devoted to enjoying nothing but my mother's home cooking and the salty pacific ocean; which so far has been quite lovely. and supposedly my brother has spread a rumor that i will be joining him and a few others for a triathlon next weekend...so despite my desire to sit and do nothing, i have been out on the bike and swimming.

Hia!

Just figured I would introduce myself! My names Kassandra, and a lot of people call me Kasey...but in track I go by Kaz...it was the name my high school coach gave me when i was a little freshman and knew nada about running and has stuck since.
I just got the workout schedule...and I want to start it now! lol but I'm still finishing up outdoor season for high school. Tomorrow is state divisionals...which is weird because we don't usually have friday night meets...and then the week after is states. Some of the core/weight exercises' names raised some eyebrows and gave a questioning "wha.." but i figured out what they meant.
WOW I really can't wait to run with all you guys and be part of such a great, close team!

I would first like to thank Jen very much for setting this up and I hope very much that we may stay in touch and help motivate one another. I must admit I am actually very excited about this cross country season. Though my last 5K did not go very well I am determined to make improve and do whatever I can for the team in the up coming season. I just signed up for the Pie Run, oh, I'm afraid I can't remember the name, apparently not many people sign up for the elite race, however, those that do are fairly fast. I'm hoping for some great competition.
To Alex, I'm so sorry I did the same thing as Jen, I just assumed that I would see you the next day only realizing that the next day was Tuesday and that you would be gone. I hope you are enjoying the wonderful southern California weather. You know I'm jealous, make sure to run your course for me and play on the beach as much as possible (the real beach).
As far as running goes, I've been training since Nationals ended and everything feels good, my "hambutt" is still sore, lol, but what else is new.

[for the record, beth is talking and i'm(jen) typing]

"hmm... what wisom do i want to pass down to the freshmen? I Can't wait till camp starts! woohoo!! About me, lets see....I have no personality, i'm so boring, i hate talking to people, and i'm just kidding."

(Beth just read that, and says she's not speaking anymore lol. but i'll get more out of her, just you wait.)

Hi y'all

So the summer has offically started, given I am excited to be out of school but that means my life now revolves around running. Lol, not a bad thing tho...I just got the training schedule and honestly I looked at it and laughed. Yep, but then I looked a little harder and realized that sure its gonna be hard at first, but definitely worth it and of course...fun! I have never really worked out before and some of those terms confuse me... "Superman" are we supposed to do the Soulja Boy? haha nah...I figured them all out, eventually. I remember looking like an idiot out in the field when I came to practice one day trying to do those plyometrics, but im getting better. I think :)

Im transferring to ERAU from a community college and am sooooo excited to become a part of an amazing team. I have looked into a few other schools to run with but this team is by far the one for me. I have met most of the girls before and I could tell how close everyone is, sure you run together all the time, but still I can tell how much y'all care for one another. Im just stoked to share my University experience with a group of amazing people.

Oh and btw, thanks Jen for setting up this whole blog thing. I hope I keep up with it, because I know this should be an fun way to keep in touch with everyone.

Have fun running everyone hope to hear from ya soon.

.....and yes my name is runningwhale15. I am obsessed with whales, different I know. But what can I say, they are sooo cute :)

First post!

So it's a whole a month after finals, but wahoo! it finally feels like summer. I've gone on two post-nationals runs, but nothing exciting to report there. I feel so out of shape! I'm still sore from my marathon adventure when I found out first hand that Stu's marathon pace is faster than my 5k pace, which is a bummer ;) teehee. I did buy new shoes today, and I'm super stoked about this whole discount thing... my shoes were like $50, which is fabulous since i'm a poor college kid. I ended up with stratus's, which i don't love, but they'll do for now. Then I opened coach's workout schedule, which was intimidating, but in its own way encouraging as well. Every year i look at it and freak out a bit at first becuase, to be honest.. it's seems rediculous. but then at the same time i appreciate it, and i guess take comfort in it becuase (as much as i don't want to admit it) I know if i want it bad enough, it'll happen. And really, that realization alone is sufficient motivation... becuase let's face it, it's kinda fun to do the impossible :)

In non-running news, I went to the beach for the second time all year, which was cool. I think if i go on the 4th for fireworks, i'll have a new PR. lol.
Beth and I are headed out on our road trip to VA to visit nick tomorrow, which should be a blast.
Hope everyone is having a lovely day! I'm planning on writing in here at least once every 3 days, and you should too! I'm asking for at least a weekly update, but the more the merrier. i'll be putting up a survey soon so we can all introduce ourselves and be friends :) yay!

<3, jen

Alex-I was too busy saying goodbye to Noelle to remember that you were leaving too! :( bye bye!

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. impossible is not a fact. its an opinion. impossible is not a declaration. its a dare. impossible is potential. impossible is temporary. impossible is nothing."

yay!

big thanks to jen for putting this all together...hopefully everyone is excited to get started for the upcoming xc season.
hasta luego,

Hi Guys :)
Welcome Embry Riddle Women's Cross Country journal! We'll be using this site to keep in touch this summer while we are scattered about the country. Hopefully it will help us meet our new freshmen, keep in touch with returners, and in general hold each other accountable for training purposes, etc. Obviously we want to know how running is going, but feel free to write about anything you want: boys, vacations, monkeys, peanut butter... you get the idea. The blog is pretty basic: nothing too fancy, just log in and create a new post. The only thing you need to do special is write your name at the bottom of your entries because for some reason, I can't get it to display them automatically.
Hope to hear from you soon. Love,
Jen
