life in the real world

hey chicas!

So first off, big thanks to Kira for inviting us "oldies" to join you on the summer blog (i remember back when Jen and I first came up with it, so its great to see you are keeping it up). To the new women joining the Eagles, congrats and welcome! I can't say i have too many wise words of wisdom at this point, but as Jen mentioned, take advantage of the summertime to stay in shape and be ready to do work in the fall.

And now for all the glorious details of my life now that i am a graduate: i have started working at Northrop and have thoroughly enjoyed getting to meet new people and do "real" engineering. I joined our office flag football league and started playing soccer again...then i tore my ACL. Surgery was last Thursday last week, so i've been recuperating at home this week, prepping myself mentally for the long road of therapy ahead of me. But i'm staying positive and hoping to be ready (at least somewhat) for the home meet in october :)

best of luck to everyone this summer and coming fall season. take care of yourselves (eat, sleep, and ice!). i look forward to seeing records fall :)

hasta luego,

Alex Salinas

Nother Newbee

Hi. I'm Rebecca. I'm a newbee. I'm really nervous about this blog thing. Never know what to say. Well one thing I can say is that I'm still in track season and get super nervous when anything about XC is brought up.
I ran at States today. It was kinda hot. It was at Caledonia-Mumford. (Its only exciting because of the Mumford part- like Mumford and sons.) I'd love to take a break or just worry about mileage but I have Nationals next week and I'm trying the 1600m. (I run the 1500m) (and today I witnessed a girl run a 4:17 1500m!! Aslin Cuff was second at 4:19! I was amazed.)
Prob should say that I ran the 4by800 and we were trying for the section record but missed it by 6 seconds. We ran a 9:21. I was 4th for the first time for our group and ran a 2:19, which I was happy for and wanted to pass out afterward.
I will say more in the future but I'm pretty tired right now. Aleiyah's grad party was today so Yay! for her!

-Rebecca Love- Peace to all!

New Girl

Hello!

Thanks, Kira, for the blog invite; I'm excited to hear from everybody on the team!

So since I am one of the new girls, I guess I could just share a little about myself... I am Bailey K. Eaton and am from Whitefish, Montana. Whitefish is in the northwest corner, about 2 hours from the Canadian border and sits right on the edge of Glacier National Park. Besides running xc and track, I love to tap dance, hike, ski, snowboard, and I LOVE to eat ice cream! I am coming to ERAU to study AE and can't wait to come down to FL.

So far the first week of the training plan has gone great! It has been rainy almost every day but getting out and running on the trails near my house has been fun nonetheless! Starting on Monday, I will be at a running camp here in the valley through Thursday. I am so excited for it - we get to run on amazing trails and it is a super fun camp. Besides running, I am working at a small golf course restaurant in the next town over as a waitress and absolutely love it! For now I don't really know what else to say!

I hope everybody is enjoying summer and that your training is going well! I can't wait to meet you all and be a part of your team!

Once again... another adventurous summer...

Hey everyone!!!

I hope everyone is having an amazing summer so far. As most of you know i've been in Michigan with dylan and his family (unfortunately having to take physics 2... not my favorite subject! and not going to lie... its odd living with a family when i've been away from mine for so long haha) but overall it has been an interesting experience so far. There are hills... everywhere... which are my "favorite" but i know they help me so much so i shut my mouth and just keep running. There has been uber bipolar weather up here, one minute its like 98 and the next it's in the 50's again! Kinda annoying when i only packed a few long shirt things to run in.

Besides taking my physics class i've been stuck trying to cram in studying for the MCAT (which i'm sad to say i may need to leave camp early... only by one day... so that i can be back in Tampa to take my MCAT). So my brain is on super overload trying to remember everything and understand it without freaking out haha.

I'm pretty excited though because i finally can go to High School camp to help out this year, even if it is only the second week. I'm hoping it will be just the thing to put me on the edge when i have to take my APFT at LDAC this year. As most of you know i have Army training this summer and will be in Ft. Lewis, WA for LDAC (July 8th-August 5th) so i lose out on a month of xc summer training but i'll be back for our camp just in time thankfully. I'm not nervous for LDAC, just not looking forward to the constant "HOOAH's" and crawling around in the dirt while being yelled at, lets just hope i can hold my opinions inside haha. Anyways just wanted to fill you girls in! I miss you all and cant wait to hear what everyone is up to this summer!

Oh and btw, Thank you Kira for getting this all set up again! :)

Summer

Hey ladies!
Happy summer :) hope everyone is having a lovely day. Thanks for the invite Kira! I'm excited you guys are carrying on the summer blogging tradition lol. I think it is worthwhile. As an "oldie" I guess I'm supposed to offer some sort of advice or something, but I really don't have anything to say except take advantage of your summers and teammates while you still have them.
As for my life/training it's been going well. I'm healthy and aiming to average 65 mi/wk July through September with a (hopefully 19:00) 5k in October. Then I'll try to bump that up to 75 and run 1:30 for a half in January. Big goals, but why not? Other than that, I'm getting ready to launch gogorunning.com - but more on that in july!
Thats about it! Happy trails!

Love always (no matter where I coach)

First Post of Summer 2011!

Hey Ladies!

I hope you all get signed onto this alright so we can start catching up about training and life this summer!

I'm home in MASS for the summer, and we have had hail for the last two nights! It makes running rather difficult since I work at my internship at a police department in the major crimes unit in the mornings, and at a cafe in the afternoons!

I have kept up with it pretty well so far, just doing basic stuff. Now I have the official schedule from Roso I should be set. If any of you new girls didn't get the schedule let me know! I am healthy! (keep your fingers crossed!).

I am really excited for this season, for myself, and mostly for the girls team!

Hope to hear from you all soon.

- Kira.
